After a grueling night waiting in the Bangkok airport for 9 hours we were finally on our way to Sri Lanka. For a country that's seriously warm, the Bangkok airport was seriously freezing!!! The flight was an entire blur as neither of us had much sleep in the frigid airport. When we arrived in Colombo we did our best to get out of the airport as quickly as possible. There were definitely some issues going on in Colombo, as we passed by many army checkpoints. There seemed to be army soldiers everywhere in the city carrying AK47's. Apparently there was a bombing the morning we arrived, but the only reminder of that we saw was the army personnel everywhere - luckily no troubles at all for us
The bus ride was gorgeous, passing by so many white sand beaches on the way. When we arrived in Ahangamo we were told to ring Rathne (the owner of the beach guesthouse) so we could get picked up at the bus stand. Within 5 minutes a longhaired Sri Lankan with a big grin on his face showed up in a van and introduced himself as Rathne. We instantly knew we were in the right place and were going to enjoy our time at 7th Sky Idyell Beach Resort
For the next 6 days we relaxed on the silky white sand beach. We met some really cool 'locals' in the evenings and would pass the time with them by listening to music, chilling out by a fire, looking for sea turtle eggs (they lay their eggs in the same spot every year) and eating the most amazing food we have eaten yet! If we were to recommend a perfect holiday destination, it would be Sri Lanka!
When it was time to leave paradise we decided to take a train back to Colombo as it would be a great way to see some different scenes. We rang Ayantha when we made our got back to Nagumbo and hung out with his friends for the rest of the afternoon playing a traditional Sri Lankan game similar to pool (but on a much smaller scale) and drinking Arrak (coconut whisky). The next morning we thanked Ayantha for all his help and advice and made our way to the airport. Next stop India!!!
