Today we decided to make a day of rememberance for all our Tanga relatives who have passed away, including Bibi (grandma), Babu (Grandpa) and Julius' Mom. We requested a mass for them this morning which took place bright and early at 6:15 am. After mass we went to the graveyard and prayed over everyones grave, various uncles, aunts and cousins. Only Julius' mom wasn't there. She is buried in Kibosho because once you marry you are buried in your husband's homestead. We are going to be seeing her next week.
Once we got back to was time for more laying around, dispersing presents and taking pictures.
Our IPod stereo is a big hit. We play Taarab music all day to the delight of the women and children. They deserved it because today they made pilau for, literally, the whole neighborhood It was all in honor of the dearly departed. How one can make a rice dish for 60 in gigantic pots over fires is beyond me but it all turned out great. All the women in the neighborhood chipped in and they even taught me how to do it. I have to try it when I get home.
More sudafed and another good nights sleep. My cold was really improving by now.
