place of rest
Entry 64 of 79 | show all | print this entry |
I'm staying in Bulawayo with Ericah and Lambert and their son Tafadzwa. Today after putting petrol in the car we drove about 30 km to the Matopos, an area of strange whale-shaped boulders and knobby hills, not high, which is a place of reverence for the Ndebele people (Zimbabwe's minority group, about 20% of the population), and a place where Yvonne loved to go. It is also where Cecil John Rhodes, empire-builder and founder of Rhodesia, chose to be buried; and since he had all of southern Africa to choose from, you can imagine that it's a fairly impressive place.
We stopped for a while amid the hills, than returned to Bulawayo and paid a visit to Ericah's mother. Although her sight and speech have been affected by a stroke, her mind is still quite clear, and we were happy to see each other again.
