Where I stayed
We eventually got out the door at 11.30am! Went into Stratford town for a look. For those who may not know, Stratford is the home of The Stratford Shakespeare Festival. We walked along The Avon River which was beautiful with lots of fall colour along the river banks. It reminded us of Christchurch in New Zealand. Although the sun was shining and temperature was 14 degrees, the wind was very strong so it felt more like 7 degrees!
We dropped into the Stratford Tourism office and picked up some maps and tips on things to do in Stratford as well as in Waterloo, Kitchener and St. Jacobs. We are going to see the Kitchener – Waterloo Oktoberfest tomorrow which runs from the 8th to 16th October
After strolling down Ontario Street looking at all the lovely shops we discovered The Shakespeare Gardens beside the Avon River. A perfect spot for lunch - on a park bench in the sun. We were entertained by some students rehearsing a play. We had to explain to Max & Sienna that they weren't really yelling at each other they were just pretending…not sure if they were convinced as they were still quite concerned. We later discovered an article in the local paper describing the students we saw as a drama group from the local secondary school rehearsing for the play "The Secret Garden".
We had promised the kids a Playground so drove to Queens Park where we had seen a great one earlier. On the way we passed The Avon Theatre and Festival Theatre were plays were in full swing judging by the number of cars around. The playground was a success, that is it tired the kids out so we could go for a nice quiet drive to the town of St. Marys while they slept (about a 30 minute drive away). Beautiful farming land (mainly corn) out here with gorgeous autumn trees.
Dinner in again tonight, nice and relaxing. Early to bed so we are ready for Oktoberfest tomorrow!
