Although we spent most of the day driving to Detroit, we did make one stop that we now recommend. Our brother, Ben Starling, told us we had to stop in Frankenmuth, MI. It's not too far off the interstate, but I really didn't want to stop. I made the mistake of putting Kelly on the phone with Ben and once he started telling her about 'Zehnders' family style restaurant, fried chicken and bakery, I didn't stand a chance. Ben knows the Zehnders and it turns out they own most of the town. Turns out it was a 'gem' of a town that Ben appropriately described as "right out of a Norman Rockwell painting." The landscaping throughout town was beautiful and there were great little shops all along Main Street.
We did go to 'Zehnders' for the "world famous chicken dinner." It was awesome and being that it was family style, we had plenty. We also met Al, the owner and told him Ben sent us. It was just what we needed in an otherwise uneventful drive day.
We got into our park around 8pm and the boys took off to play basketball with some other kids. I met a man who stopped by because he saw we had a Fleetwood, Excursion. Turns out he has a new one and he invited me over and gave me the tour. It's a beautiful coach and Fleetwood's made some major improvements. Who knows, maybe we'll buy another one some day.
