'Corn Palace'
Entry 220 of 241 | show all | print this entry |
Pretty much had a 'drive' day today. But, once again, Kelly had something in store for the boys and I. It seems we were too far from the 'Worlds biggest ball of yarn.' But, we did make a stop in Mitchell, SD to visit the 'Corn Palace.' The first one built in response to Lewis and Clark's comment that nothing could be farmed in South Dakota. The second one built in the early 1900's when Mitchell thought they were going to be named the Capitol of SD. They were so confident they even built a Governors Mansion. Unfortunately, they're not the capitol. But, the Corn Palace, which was covered with murals made of corn and filled with other murals such as Mt. Rushmore, Lewis and Clark...all made of corn. It was very unusual and worth the stop.(if you've got some time to kill)
We got in to Sioux Falls, SD around 5pm. The boys have been waiting to get new bikes, so we picked one up for Collin at Wal-Mart. We had to go to Toys-R-Us for Keegan's. They loved their bikes and were very grateful. Staying at Wal-Mart tonight, because we'll be on the rode first thing in the morning for Minneapolis.
