I'm a huge fan of the movie, 'Dances With Wolves,' so today we made one of my favorite stops. The movie was shot here in South Dakota and the set was left on the farm where much of it was shot. A family member of the farm owner bought the Fort Hays buildings and now, of course, it's a tourist stop. The boys hadn't seen the movie so we bought it and watched it tonight. They loved it and got to see some of the buildings they got their picture in front of. The man who owned the tourist stop(Herman) was a wonderful Christian man who told us how God opened the doors to his successful business. South Dakota's government made a go at running the business before Herman bought the buildings. They were unsuccessful. Herman and his wife, and 6 kids, decided to make it a package deal with a dinner show and it's been very successful. He had some great wisdom he shared with us and the boys about his experience.
Kelly and I talked to the boys this morning. We've made a decision to cut the trip a little short. There are several reasons why it makes sense, but the bottom line is we've got a great deal of peace about the decision. We'll continue on for the next few weeks and then after Kelly's high school reunion, in August, we'll head back to Park City. We've had a great experience and RVing will definitely be a part of our future, but we're looking forward to getting back to Park City for the fall.
We made it to Rapid City, SD this afternoon. We didn't do much when we got in. We did drive down to a memorial site. I found out from Keith(Lytle) that one of his sisters died in a flood here in Rapid City in 1972. He hasn't seen the memorial, so we stopped and took a picture of her name.
