We had an amazing day touring just a small portion of Yellowstone. We spent the whole day there and saw more elk, a herd of bison(Collin got so close it was scary), and we even saw 'Old Faithful.' The boys also did a junior ranger program where one of the rangers talked to them about all of the wildlife in the park. We saw several geysers and a bubbling mud pit. Just visiting a handful of the over 300 geysers in the park, it's easy to believe that the park is just a massive volcano. Just driving through the park, you quickly learn that it's a very special place. We pulled along side of the road with probably a dozen other cars and got a picture of an elk that was grazing about 15ft from the car. It wasn't even scared.
We couldn't believe it when we bumped into a family we'd met at the RV park in Seattle. We sat around the fire with them and the boys played with their kids while we were at that park. We had gotten a phone message from them that they were going to be in the park, but we never connected on the phone. The chances of us being in the same place at the same time in a park that is over 2 million acres is unbelievable. It was great to see them and we're going to try to get together for dinner while we're in West Yellowstone.
This evening we came back to the park for dinner. We went for a walk and stopped to talk to some folks we met last night. An older couple with their granddaughter Isabel(9). The boys ran to the playground with Isabel while Kelly and I talked with Keith, the grandfather. He was a great resource for places to go in our travels. He and his wife have been married for 53 years and have camped in all but about 3 states.
