Leaving Park City for Las Vegas enroute to CA!

We've had a fabulous time in Park City enjoying all the outdoor adventure and the friendly people, but it's time to head back to the RV and our dog, Riley. We started our morning with a continental breakfast at the hotel with Collin's best friend Jacob Lytle.

After they said their good byes and didn't want to leave each other we headed down the mountain for a 6 hour drive to Las Vegas, NV for our overnight...so we thought! We came upon traffic on I-15 south in the middle of nowhere and sat and sat and sat. Since it was over 100 degrees I just stayed in the car making phone calls to family and friends while Keegan and Collin watched a movie or two.

We could see smoke up ahead and thought it was a vehicular fire and prayed when we saw the unique looking helicopter fly over and about 15+ fire trucks pass by. Finally, I decided to get out and join all the other travelers on the highway and see if they knew what was going on. As soon as I did, a news reporter pulled up and asked me to be on camera to share about our waiting frustrations on the news. The cameraman informed us that it was a forest fire.

Wow...when I looked past the semi-truck that had been blocking our view we could see the flames and so much smoke filling the sky. We had made the most of our wait and shared that on the news. Keegan and Collin had now gone "potty" two times in the hand wipe container and I ran to dump it in the bushes along side the road. At times like this, I'm thankful God gave us boys. They were out chasing bugs with baseball gloves in hand having a ball!

When traffic started moving, we could see more of the flames and smoke. We lost track of how many hours we sat there, but we met some nice truckers who offered us drinks and alternative directions if we exited off I-15S. Believe it or not, traffic started moving and when it did they took us right through the middle of the forest fire on both sides of the intestate.

You could see where it was all black and had crossed from the west side to the east and was all the way to the top of the mountain. There were individual trees that were blazing with smoke all around and pieces of brush on fire here and there for a mile or so. What an amazing experience to be driving through the middle of a forest fire. I was in awe sharing with the boys that I had never in my 42 years of age seen one and this was a terrific real life lessons they wouldn't learn from reading a textbook.

We were on the road again heading to our Las Vegas overnight destination when Keegan noticed the temperature on the dash had reached 105 degrees. Believe it or not at 10:30pm in Desert Springs area it read 109 degrees. That's hot!!! We arrived into LV around midnight and found a room near the airport. Ben, it's the same Motel 6 we stayed in two weeks ago, but the price was right,it's clean, and next to the airport.

We are so excited to see Chris again tomorrow. He's been away for two weeks in FL doing Home Shopping etc.
