Our tour to Hoover Dam!

You can't go to Las Vegas without a trip to the amazing Hoover Dam nearby. Before our tour, our treat this morning was having breakfast with "Uncle Ben the Chocolate Man" as Collin calls him. He was in LV on business, so we joined him for breakfast at the Zanzibar Restaurant in the Aladdin Hotel. It was great to see another friend on the road!
So many people ask me when we're travelling if we're visiting family and friends out west and I have to say no. We're both from the east and really don't know anyone out there, but there's plenty of new friends to meet. So, when we can see someone we know it's a real treat for all of us!
We boarded the tour bus for the Hoover Dam and our driver shared lots of interesting history about Las Vegas and the building of the dam along the way. Keegan, Collin, and I watched the movie on the building of the dam and then went on the undeground tour. We enjoyed seeing the big turbines, learning about the men who built the dam and those who died, looking out over the gigantic dam, learning about hydroelectric power, and taking scenic photos.
We arrived back to LV just in time for the "Popovich Show" (on barter) featuring his adopted cats and dogs, magic, and illusion. We had walked and driven the strip enough...now it was time for "Fremont Street" in downtown Las Vegas to see the light show we'd heard so much about.
Believe it or not, the boys favorite part of the experience was watching an artist paint on plates and spoons mainly with his fingers. His landscapes, waterfalls, angels were amazing and colorful. Many people would gather around to watch him paint, but few bought. So we came up with the idea that he needed a tip jar. Collin made sure he got one (really a slot coin bucket) from one of the casinos. The boys each bought one of his painted decorative spoons to help support the artist.
As for the light show, we can say we saw it three times.
Before we left, we ran into two junior acting camp counselors at Freemont Street who we met the week before in California. It's a small world after all!
