The best of the trip so far has been the new friends we've made along the way. While Chris is back in Florida, we've had a big time getting to know our homeschooled friends from Kodiak, Alaska who are also on a year long trip across America. Mom, Sobhan, has lots of terrific travel tips since they've been on the road for 10 months so far.
Today we homeschooled in the morning and so did they. The kids are motivated to get their school work finished fast so we can head off on our hike to the three volcanoes located just 5 minutes from our RV park. After lunch, we hiked to the tops of two of the volcanoes with the kids leading the way. We were also joined by two other kids, Travis and Darby, from Orlando who are on a two, yes two, year road trip also.
The winds were so powerful at the top of the volcano that they almost blew you over. Collin was amazed by the tumble weed and how it blew down the path. They also found prickly pear cactus, lots of sand, and desert plants.
After we left the volcanoes, Keegan, Collin, and I headed down to Old Town for the highly recommended (from our Alaskan friends) Snake Museum. We saw so many unique snakes and watched an educational video on snakes. What a small world it is...turns out the owner used to live in Lake Park, FL also and taught science at Suncoast High School (right around the corner from our old house).
We ate Mexican for dinner AGAIN and the boys have had just about enough of it!!!
