We have come to really like Virginia.  There is so much history here.  Sadly, we had to curtail some of our sightseeing due to bad weather.  We did manage to get in a local festival along with trips to a couple of museums and historic sites.

We visited Stratford Hall, home of four generations of Lee's dating back to Colonial times.  In fact, two of the Lee's signed the Declaration of Independence.  Oh, and Robert E. Lee was born here as well!  Just down the road from Stratford Hall is the birthplace of George Washington. The home burned to the ground in the 1790's and the National Park that is located here holds a historically incorrect version of the home. You see, on the bicentennial of our first Presidents birthday some good citizens decided to commemorate that occasion by building what they imagined was here.  They not only got the house location wrong but also the style.  Oh, well, the setting is beautiful and that is historically correct!

We also visited the Maritime Museum in Hampton, Virginia.  It's been a long time since we actually closed a museum down.  But that happened here and we were only 1/2 done taking in the exhibits.  Reason for a return visit!

Our last excursion took us to Yorktown National Park.  This was the site of the last battle of the Revolutionary War and the site of the British surrender.  We arrived just in time to take in the guided ranger talk and it ended up being one of the best we've ever participated in.  This site continued to be so important the the North & South fought over it in the Civil War and a National Cemetery is still located here.

Years ago we were told by some RV'ing friends that if we ever got to Virginia we would probably never want to leave.  They were right.  We have come to realize that we need to spend months here. The problem is, we have to figure out when to fit it in!
