I think most of you know by now that I am fairly organized about my planning.  If I am being honest the more appropriate word would be obsessive.  While there is nothing wrong with this, I have been making a conscious effort to be a bit more, well relaxed, about what we do and when!  I think I've gotten better, I am not so sure that Ken would agree!

We arrived here in Eastport and I really had nothing planned other than a couple of golf days for Ken and some hanging out along the shores of the Bay of Fundy.  When we checked in to the campground yesterday I picked up some brochures and discovered that there are some shoreline hikes to do close by along with a couple of lighthouses. So,  that's what we headed out to do today.

First up was a stop in Eastport.  We were both very surprised by this 'easternmost' town.  It has quite a few shops, restaurants as well as some stunning views across the bay to Canada.  Back in the day this town was the heart of the sardine industry and contained dozens of factories for the catching, cleaning and canning of them.  The factories are all gone but the city still maintains its old time charm.

From Eastport we headed over to the Quoddy Head State Park - located about 40 miles by road but only about 3 as the crow flies!  We took a very scenic hike along the cliffs, really some stunning scenery.  This park also contains the West Quoddy Head Lighthouse - it looks just like you envision a Maine lighthouse to look!   All and all a good first day with nothing planned here in Maine!
