Ken belongs to several RV related, on line Yahoo groups.  These groups are made up, mostly, of men who like to sit around 'talking' about various problems and issues with their coaches. We get multiple e-mails from these groups on a daily basis.  Occasionally some info will come through that I find worthwhile.  Case in point, our current 'homesite'.

Fort Clinch State Park is located in the town of Fernandina Beach which is located on Amelia Island.  This is the extreme northeastern corner of Florida.  It seems that the beach sites here had been closed for a while.  They were bringing the restrooms up to ADA compliance.  A member of one of the Yahoo groups put out information that the loop had reopened.  The response he got from fellow members would have made you think the President was coming to dinner!   Intrigued, I checked it out..hmm, beach front sites that will accommodate a big rig.  The park contains an historic fort and it's on an island!  Needless to say, I headed for the internet to make reservations!

I managed to get a site for three nights.  All I had to do was shorten our time in St Augustine, something we were willing to do.  We did end up in a beach front site, but we were in one of the few sites that can  truly be called beach front.  Most of them are within close walking distance of the beach.  The fort was very cool, in fact, it may be one of the most interesting we have visited ( and we've been to a lot of them!!)  The town of Fenandina Beach is cute, funky and interesting.  And, Amelia Island is pretty intersting as well.  Ken, the golfer in this outfit, enjoyed his time at one of the local courses.

We enjoyed our time here so much that we have actually made reservations for a return four day visit on our trip south later this year.  I guess it just goes to show that sometimes those yahoo groups can reap rewards beyond how to change our tires, check your fluids, etc, etc!!
