Maybe it was the fact that we spent 6 weeks in the Monaco service center prior to heading north to Georgia on our last trip? Or that certain things about Florida took us by surprise. Yes, it's green here. But, it is also flat, very flat. And, of course it can be very humid. But lets be honest, the real surprise for us was that this is the "south". In fact, Florida is more southern than several southern states we've visited ( and that I have lived in...) . It was, after all, part of the Confederacy. The eastern coast has a distinct east coast feel, while the west coast feels very mid-western. This can be directly traced to the snowbirds who flock here in the winter.
The service center we stayed at for 6 weeks is located in the heart of the 'middle' part of the state. We ran into all kinds of different personalities there, not only on the service lot but in the cities & towns all around it. I would never 'paint everyone with the same brush' but for this Navy brat and her California Native husband our time in the 'middle' was like taking a step back in time - and not a good one. I will just leave it at that....I think you get my 'drift'!
So, here we are again. For the first time in five years and we are really enjoying ourselves. So far we haven't ventured too far off the west coast and it's winter flock of friendly mid-westerners. We have visited several new places prior to landing back in Bradenton for a 10 day stay. We were joined here by our friends, George & Myrna who we met on an RV tour of Europe back in 2003. The weather has been almost perfect, with limited humidity and we spent a very enjoyable week taking in the area sites along with a few Grapefruit League games.
