We have made it a total of 200 miles 'down the Cassiar', a new and beautiful road for Ken & I. The majority of the drive was in dry conditons with the rain only starting when we decided to make a stop! Up until a few years ago the majority of this highway was gravel. It is mostly 'paved' now, at least the portion we have traveled so far, but it is slow going. Having to travel a slower speeds - I'd say an average of about 40 mph - gave us time to take in the views along with the wildlife we encountered along the way ( a grizzly bear, cow moose & red fox...)

We have pulled off the road and set up home for two nights at Mountain Shadow RV Park. There is a hiking trail here that leads down to a lake along with stunning scenery from the 'living room & patio'. I have given our little group of "Sairavanners" a much needed and earned day off here. So far the weather is cooperating and I think it is time to head out for a hike!!

I should mention that in order to get to the Cassiar we had to do some back tracking along the Alaska Highway, covering the same section from Whitehorse to Watson Lake.  On our trip 'in' it was grey and rainy.  It was still a bit on the gray side on our way 'out' but at least it was dry.  The scenery can only be described as breath-taking!  We also managed to make a visit to a local museum in Teslin which gave us a completely different insight into the building of the Alaska Highway!
