We picked a perfect day. Clear blue skies, sunny and warm. That would change upon arrival on the Icefield. Still sunny but windy and it made it cooler.
After a spectacular 20 minute flight we landed on the Meade Glacier. I swear my finger never came off the camera button. We disembarked (there were 5 helicopters total). We then went on a 40 minute walk with a guide and got all educated on glaciers. The Meade glacier is receding quite rapidly. Where we were the ice was about 70 ft. thick. The Meade Glacier is about 30 miles long and 1.5 miles wide at our location. At the highest elevation the ice is over 750 ft thick. Its truly breathtaking to stand there and take it all in.
We then got back in the choppers and had a fantastic trip back over the inlet to Skagway. Officially, its a Fjord.
Hope you enjoy the photographs. 80 minutes, 119 photographs!!
