It never ceases to amaze me how quickly time goes by.  I have actually been informed that the older you get the quicker time goes by - I find this impossible to believe.  It seems like just last month we were talking about going to Alaska for the summer of 2011 and inviting our 'traveling' friends to join us.  And, wasn't it just a week or so ago that I was sitting at the computer routing out the trip on Microsoft Streets and Trips with the assistance of the Milepost and my AAA maps????  How can it even be possible that we are already in Corning meeting up with three of the four couples we will be traveling with. It truly does boggle the mind!

So, after a very short and  relatively uneventful trip we arrived in Corning, CA.  You may be asking yourself  'why Corning?'.  Well, there is a casino here that has a very nice campground and it is a reasonable drive for everyone.  In fact the drive was right around 200 miles for all of us.  We arrived, set up and immediately made a phone call for a window 'chip' repairman.  Yep, after over four years in our current 'house' and a little over 56,000 miles we got our first rock chip to that big ole' windshield.

But things would get even more interesting.  Seems that all of our friends had chips that needed repairing, so we made arrangements for a local glass company to come out in the morning to fix all of them ( 5 in total ) - all the chips, with the exception of ours, were 'old'.  The interesting part?    Well, our friend Larry showed up with a blown seal on his left front hub seal - something he had just had repaired the day before.

Now, I won't get all techincal on you, because quite honestly, I don't really understand it. Suffice it to say that it wasn't a good thing!  I pulled out my handy Verizon Droid phone and using my '' app found a local mobile big rig repair person.  (by the way, it's the same app I used to find the winshield guy....) The repair person showed up within 30 minutes, diagnosed the problem and started in on the repair.  Did I mention that we have given our friend Larry an Indian name?  We have taken to calling him 'Black Cloud'!

So, we are here at the casino campground having a great bbq dinner, enjoying the company of good friends and wondering what will happen next.  Because, after all, this is only day one of a 101 day trip!  Stay tuned!!!

Think you may be the first I've ever heard of to get the windshield chip repairs BEFORE the Alaska trek! Glad you've got all the "bugs" out and are on the road again!

BTW - that comment about time going faster, the older you get? The way I've heard it is "Life is a lot like toilet paper - the closer to the end of the roll you get, the faster it goes!"

Safe Travels to you all!
