Where I stayed
El Mirador RV Park
along the side of the road!
The first blow out was on the right front tire and it occured as we were pulling into a wide spot along the roadway to await a coach that had fallen behind. After a trip into 'town' to drop off the other coaches traveling with us, Butch & Cathy came back to sit with us along the side of the road. The trip to find the 'parking spot' took over 2 hours and there wasn't another spot along the way to park nor was there a spot to turn around - it is really difficult to put into the words the desolation of this roadway, it is unlike anything we have ever travelled before
After getting back to us, Butch & Ken headed back the way we had come to the closet 'town'. About 2 hours later they were back with Pedro and a re-tread tire. They were able to get the re-tread on and we moved to a wider spot along the roadway where we felt relatively safe staying for the night. Of course, the guys had to take Pedro back to his home.
Early in the morning we headed out again hoping that the re-tread would make into into Ciudad Obregon, by far the largest city in the area and about 100 miles away. Well, the tire made it 26 miles so we started the process all over again!
After gettting a tire, bringing out a tire repair person to change it out and driving into town - a process that took about 14 hours - we ended up in the city of Rosario where we spent the night in a Pe-Mex station.
Now, I was worried about the guys during this whole process. We had no communication since we were on the back side of creation and weren't able to get updates! The silver lining in this is that not once did I feel afraid. We were stranded and Cathy and I were alone on the side of the road for hours.(actually, the second time we were stranded IN the road) It could have been alot worse, we could have had a blow out on a blind turn or where there wasn't a guard rail...as Ken likes to say, we could have died!! But, we didn't. Life is full of experiences and as time goes by this one will turn into a great story to share with all of you!!
