Our year started out in AZ spinning our wheels and visiting friends while we anxiously awaited our first big trip into Mexico. Earlier posts on MyTripJournal.com detailed that great adventure. We traveled over 3,800 miles, visited 14 states in Mexico and had a great time, not to mention cheap tequila and Diesel under $2 a gallon.
Late March showed us on our way to Washington DC and parts east.
Ann and I traveled through the following states. NM-TX-LA-MS-GA-SC-NC-VA-MD-PA-DE-NJ-NY-PA-OH-IN-IL-IA-MN-ND-SD-WY-CO-TX-NM-AZ and back into CA. If you've been counting, that's 30 states. Didn't seem like that many at the time.
We put 13,630 miles on the coach. We used 1,808.64 gallons of Diesel. For the year our average MPG was 8.27. Pretty good for over 42,000 lbs and 66 feet long. Not bad at all.
We spent 363 nights in the coach and one night at Jack and Debby Stewarts in Wilton CA. It takes a lot to get me out of the coach and the offer to help them purchase a Diesel motorhome was it. Motorhome shopping with someone else's money will get me every time. The other 'lost' night was at a Hotel in Disneyland. Granddaughters Rule!!
Our average cost per night was $19.09, including water/electric/sewer/swimming pools and sometimes a hot tub. We spent 195 nights in commercial campgrounds which increased our costs in 2009.
The lowest cost campground? One nights stay in the parking lot of the Waffle Hut in Henderson LA. What a life huh? The highest? Cherry Hill RV Park outside Washington DC, $51.30 per night. Ouch.
And 2010? We are again spinning our wheels visiting family/friends in CA and AZ till Spring Training in AZ in March. Then its off to New Orleans, back to AZ for a trip to Guadalajara and Mazatlan (YAHOO!!!!!) in late April. June has us off to Iowa to see a new niece, SD for new Drivers Licenses, a stop in Bend OR for a vacation with the kids/granddaughters and back in Livermore CA late July for my Mom's 80th birthday and a large party of Livermore PD retirees. Then its off to NE Washington for Ann's Mom's 70th birthday in mid-August followed by a more leisurely trip to Washington's Olympic Peninsula and down the west coast back towards Livermore and Halloween with the kids.
Plans are made, plans are changed. It happens. Its the beauty of being on the road fulltime. There's always another turn up ahead. Hope the past year was as good to you as it was to us.
See you in 2010.
