Well, our 3 weeks in Manteca had come to an end. Fortunately TTN operates several other campgrounds in the Bay Area. Our choices for a new homesite included Yuba City, Marysville, Cloverdale, Hollister and Morgan Hill. We've spent time in all of these places but it had been years since we'd been to Morgan Hill. So, that's where we ended up.
The weather has gotten cold and the weather guesser is calling for quite a bit of rain over the next few dayswww.philsfishmarket.com From here we headed to Castroville for some artichokes.
Now, we love this life on the road and have very few complaints about this lifestyle. In fact, the biggest issue that we have been confronted with over our years of traveling has been trying to find good Sourdough bread - it doesn't exist east of Arizona, along with Italian dry salami and Artichokes. Well, Castroville is the Artichoke Capitol of the WORLD and we hit the mother lode. We found a stand selling artichokes. In fact you could purchase 10 for $1. They are little, about fist sized, but really good. Who cares if you have to eat 2!! (FYI - this stand is actually on Highway 1 in Moss Landing - they were .49 cents each in Castroville....)
Loaded down with artichokes - and already planning a return visit to Phils & the stand prior to leaving Morgan Hill - we made our last stop of the day in San Juan Bautista. This small city holds a state park along with the 17th of 22 missions built by the Franciscans back in the 1700's. All and all an awesome day of sightseeing.
For our Bay Area friends, all of these sights are located within an easy days drive. I would plan on visiting in the summer months when you could include a stop at one of the many state beaches along the way...And, there are a number of wineries located along Hecker Pass - we plan on getting to those later in the week!!
