We headed out of Dakotah Meadows Campground today in a pouring rain. Good grief, it is hard to believe it is August. Our first stop was at I State Trucking, located about 30 miles away. We had made an appointment with them after the coach refused to stop running on Monday (turn off ignition key-motor still runs). Anyway, Monaco helped me get it shut off by pulling fuses.
We pulled in, unhooked and the coach was taken into a bay. Well, 2 hours later the tech finally got around to looking at the coach. As always, they were unable to duplicate the problem. Every time the coach was running, it shut off when the key was turned off. The Tech was very nice and didn't want to waste any more of my money chasing a ghost ($140 an hour).
I called Monaco again and we went over all the problems again. An off the cuff comment about recent work caught my attention. Two weeks ago we had our toad brake installed in the Silverado. He said that was probably it. If a Diode was not installed (it wasn't) power would come back through to the ignition and cause this problem. Sure as Hell, I checked the wire and power was coming back into the coach. Thats why we could not duplicate it in the shop, the truck was not hooked up. Well, I paid the bill, $170 (I'll be asking for a refund from the installers). Monaco said it would not hurt anythying to hook up the truck but get the didode installed asap.
Off we went, sort of. We ran into construction and proceeded to idle along for 3 miles in one hour. Boy am I happy at this point. Not to fear it gets better. Lola, our GPS dies with a low battery and the radio shuts off. Crap!!!!! A few miles later it gets cloudy and begins to sprinkle. Oh yea, no headlights and the windshield wipers won't work. I AM NOW LOVIN' RV'N. I also know the Monaco folks go home for the weekend at 4pm in Oregon. So I exit the next time I can and hit the nearest dirt lot. Bay doors open, sitting in the rain, talking to Monaco Service and checking fuses. LIFE IS GOOD!!!!!
Turns out I didn't get the fuses I pulled Monday quite tight and todays rough road caused them to loosen. Light tester, a little rain and wind, pliers and some cuss words and all was working again.
A short 20 minutes later we pulled into the Grand Casino RV Park, registered, set up and made one really 'stiff' Margarita. Life is starting to look a little better!
