Looks like I made it back to Paradise again. The flight out of Atlanta-Harstfield airport was breeze. Made it through the TSA checkpoint in 20 minutes ! I was very impressed by the way our homeland security folks efficiency and professionalism.
As soon as I got of the jet and my feet hit the tarmac, I began to smell freedom again. My own ' Shawshank Redemption '. You may ask, " How does one smell freedom ? ". The best and only analogy I can compare it to is phermones. An a proverbial invisible agent of love.
The beauty of being a bilingual traveler is you get better deals and more locals info and affection
lady. I ask him why he hasn't had any luck, considering he picks them up by the boatload everyday and takes them to their perspective resorts & hotels. he admits he is shy when he's not drinking and the language barrier is his biggest obstacle. Too funny, good luck amigo. You need better game cuz your luck sucks like mine.
I secure a room on the beach for $30.00 per night.Ok, with Ac and TV. Furthermore, it has 2 fans and the temperature cools off at night with less humidity due to the ocean breeze that constantly permeates the place and i didnt come to Central America to watch television.
First order of business is to ascertain as much local info about this 2 street town by talking to the amigos and ex-pats. Thus, my point of origin became the beach itself. Let me just tell ya'll, I don't want to really tell you about this place because I don't want to come back 10 years from now and not recognize it like many of the other beaches I've been to in CR
Matter of fact, i talked to a British couple who had been to Phuket Thailand and they said this beach would rank higher. I've never been there but, I consider that impressive. So, now you know.
So anyways, I'm walking along the edge of Paradise found and the first thing I notice , besides the multitudes of free roaming dogs, is at least 10 hot chicks to every guy. ( thank you Lord ) I walk up on a beach side bar on the north end of the shore. I notice that there are 2 fus ball tables! I LOVE this freakin game. I am so good at this game with a soccer theme, sort of like air hockey. I ask 4 locals sufer dudes to play. They respectfully decline, but we compart in some good talk, good beer and share a red bud blunt.
Stop the Press !- It is currently raining as I write this blog and I notice a guy across the street and this guy is painting the outside of the building with a roller brush. His boss comes running by and cusses him out in spanish
Ok,, so I go back to the roomand take a cold refreshing enviroment ( No hot water ) But, it feels good in this warm and humid Tropical enviroment.
SECOND WIND ~ I head to the furthest reaches of the beach, away from tourists, to find a place to eat at the 'nacional' local price.
I walk into a small Bar/Rest run by an expat named david, from wisconsin. I pay $3.00 for a huge Burger with all the dressings and drink.
Turns out he has been living here 21 years. he gives me alot of inside info and talks at length about the ' Good Ole days' of Costa Rica. Before the proverbial tourist invasion. I end up talking with some random locals about cultures and the different perspectives we have. He founds out I lived in Miami, Florida and tells me their is a beach bar next store called ' Bella Latina'
I walk over and meet the owner with him. turns out this Columbian expat who lived in Miami for yers went to the same high school I went to; Miami Sunset, he is class of '93 and I '80. SMALL WORLD. What are the odds?
I am invited to another club by him and his beautiful wife, but I'm beat and tommorow is Friday ! I go back to the room and rest up for la fin de semana.
