Back in the land of better beef, better coffee, better spanish accents and cheaper prices, HELLO AGAIN ARGENTINA!
In Latin tradition, we celebrated Christmas with dinner on the 24th. From the Torres hike, Peter, Gian, Georgina, Kim and I all spent Christmas eve over a dinner of homemade Coq au Vin and many bottles of red wine in Calafate. As midnight struck, we wandered into the streets where fireworks were being lit all around the city (likely from various backyards as massive fireworks are legal here!). Later on, Georgina and I treated each other to a gift of a Bombay Gin and Tonic at a local club (a weekly staple back home yet a luxury down here!) Christmas Day had us visiting one of the most spectacular glaciars in Glaciar National Park - Perito Moreno. Beautiful sunny day made the contrast of the immense glacier that much more impressive. We sat and watched as a multi-meter chunk of ice fell off the side of the glaciar and sent a 4m tidal wave across the lake. Then moments later, the underside of the iceberg grew steadily out of the water in a magical bright blue mountain. Speachless.
We then took a bus upto a small town infront of a famous mountain range called Mount FitzRoy. The most incredible sunset over the glacial rocky range welcomed us and it was a great ending to the day! Happy Holidays to everyone wherever you are! More thumbnails ...
