We decided that hiking was out of the question with the weather, so we left the mountains for some beach and whales. We rented a car with Matt and David another traveller to go tour the Peninsula Valdez on the east coast of Argentina.

We lucked out on a calm day and managed to get out to see some Southern Right Whales before they migrated out of the area. We floated beside about 10 pairs of different mom and baby pairs. The tranquility of sitting in the ocean beside such massive mammals as they quietly came up to breath every 45 seconds was astounding. They perform 3 acts, standing on their head so that their tail is exposed, breaching, and tail slapping. We witnessed the first two and I was just floored.

Later that day we saw Mallegnic Penguins and southern sea lions. We waited until sunset and then witnessed an orca lingering around a bay, which was very lucky as usually they do not appear for another month...they are early. In January, the Orcas will jump up on shore and feed on the sea lions.

The four of us rented a cabin on the Peninsula and had a Midnight "Asado"(BBQ) for Mos birthday. Matt stayed up trying to cook a cake in an pot in an old gas oven and so we had it for breakfast before leaving the next day. A great time had by all!
