Hi everyone,

Left Kuala Lumpar on Monday morning to get the bus up to the Cameron Highlands. Went to the manic bus station in plenty of time to get the bus, had our tickets and goodies for the journey and proceeded to find the right departure point. By a stroke of pure luck we saw a hand scribbled note on the back of the tickets telling us that the bus was leaving from outside a cafe on the other side of the street a couple of blocks up. Mad dash in 38 degree heat with rucksacks to finally get there. Bus was amazing, reclining seats, air con, loads of leg room so looked good for our 5 hour journey. Just settling into a nice snooze when we both woke sweating, the air-con had broken so the rest of the journey up the steep and windy roads was a hot one! The scenery more than made up for it though, absolute amazing. Arrived in the small village of Tanah Rata to find that our ruck sacks which has been in the boot of the bus were soaked, something to do with the broken air con!! Ah well, we needed to do laundry anyway. Stayed in a really sweet little guest house on a hill outside the town. Very popular stopping off point for people on their travels. The cool air was great, at least 10 degrees lower than Kuala Lumpar at the altitude of the Camerons. The climate is a bit crazy as every afternoon without fail it pours rains for a couple of hours so we were told any tours, trails etc had to be done in the morning. Met up with a Canadian couple and spent a really nice evening enjoying the view and the cold air!

The following morning we decided to do a tour organised by the guesthouse. About 8 of us piled into a minibus and were brought on a tour of the sights. The Cameron Highlands was established as a hill station for the wealthy colonists who wanted to escape the heat of the lowlands so loads of really pretty houses still exist. The people who live there now are mainly farmers with small plots on the hills. We were brought to a rose garden, a chinese temple, butterfly park (which had some weird and wonderful insects in it), a honey bee farm to taste pure honey, a strawberry farm to taste fresh strawberries and icecream and a tea plantation where they still produce tea the old fashioned way. Was amazing to see the workers in the fields picking the tea leaves manually, they earned 4 cent per kilo collected, really makes you think. Were given a tour of the factory with the old machines and presses all from the 1930's still working. Got to enjoy a lovely mug of tea aswell..

Spent the evening watching the rain and having a few beers with the rest of the gang in the guesthouse. Met a couple farm England who had been travelling for 9 months so had some great stories to tell.

Early on Wednesday, back to the bus station to catch our 6 hour bus to Penang (Island off the West coast of Malaysia) Kept our bags with us this time!!

Will update on Penang soon...

Was that scorpion dead or what'??? Looks pretty nasty.
Seems like you are having a ball though, bugs or no bugs. And yes Paul, you definitely have a big explorers beard now. All you need is the wide brimmed hat.

Love

I am glad you guys are enjoying yourselves!!!!

Hope the trip is up to your expectations.

It is funny how there are soo many little things in this world that we use and take for granted without a thought in our minds of where and how it came from. I think this is the best part of travelling: seeing what we heven't seen before and starting to appreciate what we have.
