Hi, sorry for the delay in posting an entry. We arrived in Bangkok on Thursday afternoon to high humidity and driving rain. The 25 KM taxi ride from the airport to our hotel took over 1 hour and cost, wait for it, just 4 euro!!! Our Hotel is just around the corner from the famous Khao San Road. First impressions of Bangkok are great, we heard some mixed reports about the city but we are totally blown away by it. The people are so nice, genuine and friendly even though many of them have nothing in the economic / financial sense. The place we are staying is known as the backpackers mecca of Thailand which is pretty much correct, every nationality under the sun, all of whom mix so well. Everyone is happy, friendly and here to have a good time (plenty of cheap alcohol does help!). The Khao San road is a neon light paradise, loads of bars, stalls selling everything, balloon merchants, noodle sellers etc.

We have only been here a few short days but we have already done so much as you can see from the photos, feels like we have been away for longer. Even though this is one of the most hectic cities we plan to visit, we are both feeling very relaxed and energised probably due to the hour long massages we went for this evening.

After a pretty uneventful flight which we both managed to sleep on, we arrived on Thursday evening. Quick check in at hotel and then out to walk the Khao San Road, decided to savour the atmosphere and eat there aswell. The following morning at 6.30am, Lisa woke, which is a miracle at that time of the morning but we decided to get an early breakfast and hit the MBK Shopping centre to buy a camera. Took our first tuk tuk ride, crazy! Labyrinth of a place, loads of floors and hundreds and hundreds of stalls and shops. Got sunglasses, shorts, flip flops etc, the prices are ridiculous, would take a long time to spend 20 euro on sundries. In the afternoon after a siesta due to our early morning, Lisa went for a foot massage and Paul decided to have his head shaved to blend in with the Buddhist monks. Out on the town again, there was a rock bank playing around the corner so sat in a bar and listened for a while and then saw a few more bars before calling it a night in the wee hours..

Today we decided to walk to the Grand Palace which is really only a short walk but in the humidity, traffic conjestion and pollution, it felt like a trek especially as Lisa is not too comfortable crossing 6 lane roads of speeding Bangkok traffic without the comfort of a green man. On the way up the avenue, hot and sticky we were stopped by a young guy who was hoping to become a monk. As we were chatting he ended up organising a tour of Buddhas and temples for the day, before we knew it, he had hailed a tuk tuk for us. We were very skeptical especially after reading the travel guides telling us not to accept offers like this as it is only a scam to make money. We decided to throw caution to the wind and accept so off we went on a whirlwind tour of Bangkok (loads of pics attached). It worked out really well, tuk tuk driver really looked after us and took nearly all the photos, the ride took over two hours and cost 1 euro!!

Had a quick bite to eat and then back to the hotel for another massage, Lisa had relexology again and Paul had a Swedish oil massage but was quite indignant from behind the curtain when the Thai lady told him to take off his pants (no photos of that thank goodness)...

Ever sense Paul has been uploading photos for your viewing pleasure and Lisa had her hair done!! Off out now to celebrate our last night in Bangkok, will definitely be back to Thailand at some stage, hitting Sabah, Malaysia tomorrow, will keep in touch...
