When we left Gallup, NM this morning the temp was down in the 20's.  Even the cold didn't serve to wake me up.  After deciding to return home early, it seems my metabolism has decided to wake me as soon as possible and refuse to let me go back to sleep.  Three nights in a row I have awoken in the middle of the night and had a ridiculous time even napping until daybreak.  Very difficult to say the least when getting ready to drive 500 or so miles each day for 6 days.  Anyway, we made it another 550+ miles today and have only 1550+ to go to sleep in our bed at HOME.

Rhonda must have asked me two dozen times today, "are you alright?".

Had a little scare today when we noticed a Texas State Trooper on the opposite westbound side of I-40 (I was doing 81 in a 75 zone) spin his tires getting off the side of the road (he evidently was running stationary radar or laser), across the lanes on the westbound side, and across the grass median, and into my eastbound lanes maybe 200 yards behind me.  I looked at Rhonda and said, "I can't believe he is gonna pull me for 6MPH over the limit."  I had slowed to 76 by then.  The dang fool went by me doing maybe 110 and then slowed down to the same speed I was driving.  He drove like that for about 5 miles, maybe 1/10 or 2/10 of a mile in front of me, and then ran across the grass median and headed back westbound.  Rhonda said she thought he might have figured we were going faster than we were.  Oh well, go figure.

This drive today involved about 200 miles of I-40 that we did not traverse on our trip out here due to deviations to see Palo Duro Canyon and Roswell.  It still seemed like the scenery was somewhat redundant.  Maybe some of it is because we have both become very tired.  So tired, I decided today NOT to visit the Corvette Museum and to just do the 3 remaining days straight home.  Tomorrow we will drive another 500 miles to Forrest City, Arkansas.

After this trip, I am wondering how I seem to drive the 880 miles to the Gulf Coast of Florida for a week or two without stopping overnight.  And, the return trip home.  Maybe the last time we did it was the last time I will do it.

Only a few pics to post today.

Sorry you can't sleep well, but just be glad you know you will be able to once you return home. I have not slept a night through in years and years. Can't even remember what it was ever like. Oh, and sure glad 'your trooper' decided to leave you alone!

Karla, right on.

Lynn & Dex, we understand your perspective and the reasons for it. We also know the motor home has it's good points and bad points. Remember, we owned it before you guys. LOL!! It is an excellent way to travel for those who prefer it. It is also a *payne* in the butt for those who don't. :-)
