Today we drove from Nazca to Paracas via Ica and Huachachina (otherwise known as the Oasis). And we stopped by Pisco to taste some of the famous Pisco wine which is made into Pisco Sour cocktails - Peru´s national drink!

After a couple of hours we arrived at the ¨Oasis¨, a tiny town called Huachachina which is in the desert, surrounded by high sand dunes, but has a lake in the middle and some hotels and resorts with pools and restaurants. While I relaxed by the pool at a hotel and enjoyed ice cream, David and a couple of the other guys from our tour took a sand buggy ride and did some sand-boarding.

He said it was a lot of fun and the driving was crazy, just the kind of activity David likes! When he came back we had a quick lunch and then he jumped in the pool to clean and cool off and then we headed off.

Our next short stop was at the Pisco winery where we toured the winery and learned how they made Pisco and then sampled the different kinds of Pisco.

After this short stop we continued to sea level (first time in a few weeks!) and stopped at our hotel in Paracas. It was RIGHT by the beach! Hooray! Our first look at the ocean since Ushuaia many weeks ago!! Our room was on the second floor and had a balcony overlooking the ocean, it just happened that when we arrived the sun was setting and it was just a gorgeous view.

We wandered into the small town for some local fish dinners (very cheap and fresh!). Then we headed back to the hotel.

Tomorrow we leave for Lima (our last stop). We´re hoping to catch up with Melanie´s roommate from Purdue, Daniela, who is from Lima. Only one night in Lima and then we leave for home!!
