We took an overnight bus from Arequipa to Nazca. It was actually pretty comfortable for a bus. It was a double decker and big cushy seats with blankets, cushions, a snack and a movie. I slept better than I do on planes, so overall I much prefer overnight buses to flights!

We arrived into Nazca at 7am and went straight to our hotel and checked in. The hotel was a bit aways from the town (its quite a small town), down a dirt road. But it was a comfortable hotel and it had a pool. That´s always a plus. Especially when you´re in the desert and its really quite hot.

Everyone took a short nap in their rooms before we met again at 10am to go to the Nazca airport for a flight over the Nazca lines. They are very famous as the Incas carved them into the desert thousands of years ago and no one really found them until the 1930´s when a plane flew over and noticed these etchings. There are etchings of a monkey, a whale, a dog, a condor etc and there are hundreds of them. It was quite a feat. So we took this small plane up. Enough room for 5 of us plus the pilot and viewed the main etchings. It was pretty cool to see, although Dave wasn´t a huge fan of the small plane and the tight circles we flew. He was a little green when we finally landed.

After our short flight we headed into town to eat some lunch before heading back to our hotel to play cards and relax by the pool. There´s not much else to do in Nazca.

Tomorrow morning we take a bus to Paracas via Ica, Pisco and Huacachina (the oasis).
