Ushuaia is known as Fin del Mundo (End of the World) here, as its the Southernmost City in the World. It is a pretty small city, but there are quite a few things to do down here. It is quite a big port town, lots of cruise ships and ships from here also sail to Antarctica.
We spent the first day on a 3 hour boat ride through the Beagle Channel checking out the diverse wildlife - penguins, cormorants, albatross, fur seals and various other birdlife
After the boat ride Dave and I walked the town. It is quite an interesting town, with two casinos, a shopping mall with lots of international brands, and lots of salons and upscale shops. I guess they are catering to the Antarctica and cruise ship clientele who have some money.
We spent the next day in Tierra del Fuego National Park doing a short hike through the trails. We didn't go as a group, but just a few of us went. We saw some wild Patagonian horses, more birds and some great scenery of the end of the Andes ranges with all the snow capped mountains. It started raining just as we arrived at the visitor center and restaurant, so we enjoyed a great lunch with a great view! Then we caught the bus back to town and spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing and enjoying the small town before our final meal in the town. We had some delicious local seafood!
One night in Buenos Aires tomorrow and then we're off on our own for a few days in Santiago and Valparaiso, Chile.
