Well we're just finishing our 4th day here and flying to New Delhi tonight at 8pm. The weather has been the best surprise. High 20's and lowish humidity, which is wonderful when you know how much Rob and I HATE the heat.
Our hotel is in a great spot close to the skytrain and the ferry terminal and has cool breezes blowing off the river all day -bonus!

The Grand Palace, Wat Po and Wat Arun were all pretty amazing and being on the river is a bonus to just jump on and off the ferry to visit them - no hassles and very relaxing way to sight see.
We spent a few hours around Kao San Road yesterday. 06 KaoSan Road

Great atmosphere and shopping for brand tshirts, cds, dvds etc and all aimed of course at the young backpackers. It felt a bit like Kuta without the beach. Sad thing is Rob and I decided it was "nice to visit but we wouldn't want to stay there" - YES we know - Its cos we're getting old!!!... sigh.... very distressing ... not... as we took a taxi back to our comfortable, quiet hotel..hee hee

We've been having lunch at a street side cart just around the corner from the hotel the past 3 days. We saw a yank eating there the first day and it looked great, so decided to give it a go. Great food better than the restaurant stuff we've had and 2 meals and drinks have been costing us $2.80 (and that's with a tip included!) Only problem is it's a point and hand action order only so it's a bit of a guess as to what we've actually asked for. Our Lunch Break

The Shopping! So over the past 4 days Ive done a lot of "research" and checked out all the main shopping malls and markets areas ready to just hit the good ones on our return.

I'm sure glad we've allowed a 24hour pit stop on the way home .. whoa. 04 Shopping Heaven

Wayne and Ryan would disappear into these Malls and never come out again..ha ha (better add Colin to that list too).

We went to the Suan Lum night market last night. Its all under cover similar to Vic market but with added ferris wheel, rock bands, huge screen TV's and dozens of food stalls with seating areas for thousands.

Finally if you kids want to keep score of the following data....
Bangkok 4 days - Dad - One lot of antibiotics for chest infection, 20 panadol for flue aches and general pains, stoxil for cold sores, betadine for some odd tropical disease thingy on his toe and band aids to cover the same. We went and restocked our first aid supplies this afternoon ready for India (just walk into a chemist here and show them the antibiotic box and they will hand you over as many as you want - no doctor Rx required)
anyway.... Dad said its for one of 2 reasons... either "The travel god doesn't like him" or "He's just not built to leave Australia" (I think maybe it's because he's a boy..??) - but I have to touch wood as Ive been a bit headachey today..haahaa.

We've both really like Bangkok so it's a good start to the holiday. Bangkok Sights
