This entry and the second entry from Cusco when we returned in a couple of days arent exciting but the photos are where the real enjoyment of the city lies.... as we wandered the streets every corner would have a lama or alpacha, women weaving, children matching in parades.. always heralded by firecrackers, and the wonderful clothing of the minority women... that combined with the paved alleyways and brown historical buildings sitting upon the Inca foundations of centries before and that was the magic of Cusco...
So Cynthia had been making a million calls from her mobile and was relieved to find a van waiting for us at the airport when we arrived. Our van still had to weave in and around the rocks on the roads and the streets were deserted of cars and most of the shutters on the buildings were still down so the strike must have only just been called off.
We were still only one of a handful of cars on the road and as we passed people would whistle at our car for breaking the strike (I found out later that whistling like this is equivalent to our booing).
Cusco was bigger than I'd imagined and the old city is lovely with the main square filled by 3 gorgeous churches.
A bit of a walk around to orientate ourselves and for Cynthia to give us her history spiel... she sooooo loves Peru and it's history... lucky shes so cute or shed be boring..hee...
Our hotel was nice and in a great position only a couple of minutes form the square. So early bed for some cable tv (ie english tv) and then once again just like our last 2 trips I woke in the night with gastro! - me who when at home has a cast iron stomach!.. very annoying!.
Because we were using the local buses for a few hours of travelling the next morning, at 4am I surrended and took some immodium.... fingers crossed for a good day tomorrow as we are going to the beautiful Sacred Valley.
Rob and I would return to Cusco by ourselves the day after tomorrow when the group would split with some going on 2 different treks. Rob and I would have an extra 2 days in Cusco... really looking forward to being able to just wander and enjoy the city.
