We started our adventure (and ended it) in Ubud, which is a lovely arts town in south-central Bali. We stayed just outside Ubud in the small village Sayan, where we went for really pleasant walks in the nearby rice paddies where we watched the locals care for their rice farms, shoeing away ducks, and the children fly homemade kites. On our second day, we went for nice three-hour guided hike with our new friend Wayan, complete with  one river crossing, a first for Trent. During the hike, we stumbled upon some women working in the river - carrying 15 kilos of wet sand on their heads!!!
The food in Ubud is among the best of Bali. We ate incredible (and cheap!) meals every night, washing it down with cold Bintang beer or fresh papaya juice. It was the best introduction to Balinese food, which is like Chinese food, but sweeter, spicier and void of MSG.

After one year in China, our senses are often assaulted with the harsh sounds of horns honking, trucks hauling, motorbike brakes squealing, and the smells of urine, cigarette smoke (but not me!!), and frying oil. The sights and smells of Bali couldn't be more different. Waking up each day to birds chirping and the smell of incense. Ahhh....
