Where I stayed
First stop was the TV Tower which is this massive pole with 3 different sized balls going up the tower. We headed up to the viewing deck which is the middle ball and 259m high. Under the viewing deck there is a glass deck, once you get over the fact that you want fall through it is quite cool
Off to the Jade Buddha temple now. There a few temples in here but the jade is the highlight. Of course it comes with a story which is about an Indian man who went to Burma and then wanted it carved into Buddha, they told him he needed to go to China as they were the good carvers and off he went. An old chappy took on the task and he took 3 years to carve it. When the Indian chappy tried to ship it back to India they got it on the boat and the heavens opened up, so he decided to wait it out and try again. On the second attempt months later the same thing happened so he decided to stay in China with his carving.
Guess where to now??? China Town!!! Who would have thought hey, China Town in China? It does put all other China Towns to shame, that is for sure. However, it is just another market area in a fancy building??!! But I guess the Chinese do love everything fake so it works for them.
Off to a garden now, this one was a personal garden in the middle of China Town. There are loads of little paths to get lost in but somehow they seemed to go around in circles??
After the garden we spent some time walking around the market and getting lost
Off to the Bund now. It runs along the river and the amount of flowers they have decorated it with is crazy!! You get a good view of the Finance district from here and the TV tower. The Chinese made me laugh, we were walking along and got to this one point where they were all pushing and shoving and trying to get a photo with the finance district in the background when they could have just walked 10 meters either side and they would have got a photo with no one else in it?? Go figure hey?? Guessed you get used to having to push everyone aside for everything you don’t know what to do with free space when you see it??!!
Now we are heading to the night light cruise. First they make us sit in the bus like prisoners, then they let us through so we can sit in the waiting area and finally we go aboard. It has really dropped in temperature so nice and fresh on the top deck. They turn the lights on at 6:30 and off at 10:30, apparently it costs about 40,000 Yuan an hour so they are trying to keep the costs down??
After such a jammed packed day it seemed that pizza and bed were the only things appropriate. However, be warned people, Pizza Hut in China do not do garlic bread or garlic pizza!! Nor do they know what BBQ meat lovers is, so BBQ Sausage is what we got.
