There is a big sea lion colony in the port that we walked about 3 hours to see, but we could only bear to watch them for about 5 minutes because they smelled so incredibly horrible. Seriously, Iīve never smelled anything like it. It was mostly males. Some of them were gigantic and really grouchy and baring their huge teeth and barking at one another! After our beautiful sea lion experiences in the galapagos with cute playing, cuddling sea lion mamas and babies, these brutes were foul! But we then we found a few more of them hanging out at the fish market where we could watch them without such a stench and we couldnīt argue that they really are pretty impressive creatures. Some of them actually have thick manes around their heads, which made the name "sea lion" make sense for the first time.
In any case, we just spent our days at the beach and our evenings eating paella, steaks, and roast pig for our dinners. We found another branch of a local micro-brewery pub that we liked in Mendoza so we popped in there for a few drinks. It was always pleasantly busy, which was nice since the rest of the town was a bit deserted!
Heading up the coast to Villa Gesell next!
