Well, not really...

Caye Caulker didn't hold much appeal for us. It is revered by many as a kick-back location. But we already had more than our fair share back in Isla Holbox. Plus they don't have even have a real beach here, just jetties to jump from. What's up with that?

The dodgy little bird cage we chose to stay in didn't help get us settled either. Arriving tired and in the dark is seldom a good thing. Cheap, clean but tiny. It was effectively a wendy house in someone's backyard and somehow it was hooked up to electricity. The owners live in a trailer and rent out the main house and two so-called cabanas. Not recommended!

This island was however our first real intro to the sights, sounds and smells of Belize. Dreadlock rastas. English-speaking. Carribean accents. Reggae music. Barbecued jerk chicken. Chinese shops and restaurants?

Seeing ol' Queenie on the bank notes was amusing. The very same Queenie that we pledged allegiance to back in 2010. Belize was also a British colony once upon a time. Then it was known as British Honduras.

In our whirlwind visit to this island we managed to track down and hang out with buddies made in Tulum -  Lisa and Jason from Minnesota plus Maria and Tommy from Norway. Always a pleasure to see friendly, familiar faces in an unfamiliar place.

Truth be told, we probably didn't give the place a fair chance but we came for the snorkeling, dammit! We established that a 3-day sailing trip to Placencia with Raggamuffin tours was leaving the next day and we wanted to be on it!

So after just one night, we upped and left,,,
