Where I stayed
Umma Gumma Hostel
Being the reflector that I am, my instinct is to reflect on the months gone by so here goes...
To date we have visited 4 countries, spent time in 6 different time zones, crossed two oceans, slept on countless beds, visited countless lakes, mountains, rivers, volcanoes, cities, towns, and met loads of awesome people on our travels.
People often ask what the life of a nomad is like and it's really hard to explain. Any hostel or couch where we lay our hat becomes our home, just for a little while. Somehow living out of a 40 litre backpack has become a way of life
MOST VALUABLE POSSESSIONS
1. A BIG smile (cheesy but true!)
3. Bank cards!!!
5. Asthma inhaler
MOST USEFUL POSSESSIONS
There are loads - my dear mooncup (thxxx Michelle! :), headtorch (thxxx Royals! :), travel towel (thxxx Rosie! :), money pouch (thxxx Vicky & Elliot!) yes, we still have them since 2003!), the auxilliary cable, insect repellent, sunscreen. And what's THE most useful thing is my backpack? It's just such a versatile item. It can be a long or short skirt, a dress, a shawl, a headscarf, a blanket, a beach mat, a towel, a table cloth, and a canopy - the top prize has to go to the humble sarong!
We are thoroughly enjoying and embracing our new lifestyle. Not every day is pleasant or happy but every day brings promise. Promise of a new adventure, new friends, new experiences, new food, new discoveries about the world and ourselves. We keep stretching our wings, living with little routine or structure, extending our comfort zone further. We tend to "plan" a general direction about 2 days ahead. We never really know what's going to happen next or where we will end up. We aim to stay open. The more we open our minds to opportunities and open our hearts to people serendipity just happens.
Who knows where the Road Lees Travelled will lead next?
