Santa Cruz. No relation to Santa Claus.

This fun little town had an amusement park right on the beach with all the usual rides and carnival foods. Traffic was terrible on this Sunday afternoon with everyone probably scrambling to get back home after their weekend break.

Mario and Bo went off to explore the promenade while DDD (Designated Driver Dee) took a shower and had a nap, the responsible thing to do after a night of restless sleep and ahead of another day of driving. We regrouped for dinner at the local Mexican burrito house, feeling rather lacklustre. So we retired relatively early. We're not just faders, we're Dearth faders!

Tip: If you plan to do this road trip, rather do it over 3 days instead of attempting to cram it all into two.

We set off early the next day, headed directly for San Fran. But first we had the "hearty" (*sarcastic tone*) breakfast laid out at the motel on the reception desk. It was anything but! Perhaps if they made smaller muffins it would seem less bizarre than cutting a large muffin into 8 thin slices. The yogurt was also rationed but the coffee was good. We had a few good laughs with the Indian owner and his wife, who seemed to take a special interest in us. They knew we were South African but people often think Mario is Indian. His accent, extensive tattoo and piercings tend to throw them way off.

Can't figure out which box to put us into, huh? Gotta love being mixed race ;)
