Shrnutí v češtině: První ochutnávka Havaje – ostrov Oahu a hlavní město Honolulu. Místní jsou velmi přátelští a snaží se za každou cenu pomoci. Všude je spousta bezdomovců. Slavná pláž Waikiki obklopená hotely se nám (i přes ty hotely) líbila. Zajeli jsme si zašnorchlovat do Hanauma Bay.
People were really friendly on the bus, asking where we were from and eager to help us with directions and recommend where to eat and shop. We got off a few steps from our ‘flash packer’ hostel right in the heart of Waikiki.
We spent 2 nights in Honolulu. Waikiki beach itself wasn’t as big or as developed with high rise hotels as we expected. There were lots of surfers about the city just carrying their boards across the city streets in their swimwear. We bought a new laptop in Walmart and the next day we took a trip along the coast to Hanauma Bay which is a protected reef that was meant to be great for snorkeling. It was $7.50 entrance to the bay and although the views were beautiful we thought the reef was quite grey and we didn’t see so many fish.
Everyone we met in Honolulu has been lovely. Random strangers on the street have often stopped to offer advice or help. The city has a nice vibe but there were very many homeless people everywhere too which was sad. Very few Europeans make it to Hawaii so people were constantly hearing our accents and asking where we were from.
On Thursday 4th October morning we were due to take a 30min flight to Maui. As we waited at the airport we were called to the desk and told that our flight was overbooked and we were being bumped to the next flight, 2 hours later. By way of compensation we were then handed a cheque for $270. That little stroke of luck had just paid for our new laptop :)
