Happy 3rd Birthday to Dylan's best buddy Heidi. Looking forward to your party on Sunday. Dylan is initially a little perturbed that its Heidi's birthday, and he is not dressed as a pirate and Taya is not dressed as a baby princess, and he is not driving to her house. Emma explains the small detail of the international travel being necessary, and not to worry he has not missed the party. He sent flowers to Heidi for her birthday "because girls like flowers mummy", then, on reflection, "boys do too". He can't wait to see Heidi.

Winding right down from our adventures today. Just a travelling day today. A slow pack of the bags. Dylan was delighted as he got to watch more tv than we think he's ever had in one go before. Nice FaceTime with South Africa too.

We have lunch in our hotel room then drive to our final destination in Canada, Calgary. It's about an hour and a half from Banff. The three youngest Kemptons sleep most of the way.

The afternoon involves a bit more unpacking and re packing, showers and baths for all. We cross eight lanes of traffic to go for dinner. Nice restaurant actually, so we are pleasantly surprised, since we only picked it for its proximity to our hotel. Dylan is delighted to find chicken quesadilla on the menu, so he orders it immediately when the waitress comes to take our drinks order. We all have a huge feast and a very enjoyable meal together. Dylan has vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce for dessert and Taya has a frozen yoghurt ice pop which she loves.

Dinner conversation turns to what we have most enjoyed on our trip.

Favourite place :
Dylan - Vancouver (with all the trains and stuff)
Rich - Yellowstone National Park (but all US parks)
Emma - Sydney

Most fun:
Unanimous vote for Disneyland

Worst Place:
Dylan - didn't have one
Rich - Launceston, Tasmania
Emma - Adelaide, Australia

Favourite Accommodation:
Dylan - Vancouver
Rich - Polonnaruwa (Sri Lanka)
Emma - Vancouver

Best children's activity:
Emma and Rich - Science World Vancouver
Dylan - the playgrounds (we have been to hundreds!)

Best meal:
Dylan - Waikiki, Hawaii - chicken quesadilla
Rich - Vancouver - steak and seafood
Emma - Sydney - teppanyaki
Can't believe no one picked one of Emma's culinary delights!

Hottest Place:
Rich - Palm Springs
Emma - Las Vegas
We are probably forgetting some of the Sri Lanka temperatures on this one.

Rich asks Dylan who has been the best behaved on our trip, "Dylan and Mummy, you two haven't been so good". Emma is very pleased with this answer. Although her answer to this question would probably have been Taya.

We decide that the other questions like best beach, prettiest place, best national park will need to wait until we have the aid of our photos and some time to sit and mull it over.

Quick bedtime for Taya whilst Rich and Dylan drive to a local playground for an evening play before bedtime. Dylan has come on leaps and bounds with his climbing at adventure playgrounds. This evening we even had a tumble, followed by "no tears Daddy". What a little soldier.
