Morning Skype with Grandma Lizzie in South Africa. We have missed our chats, and Dylan has missed his viewings of his toy cars that can be played with in Vancouver. Yummy breakfast. We now have a toaster and what a difference that makes to breakfast. It's like a hotel here, we have options of cereal, porridge, strawberries, bananas, raisin toast, yoghurt.
Today is Emma's first drive of the beast. All fine just takes a massive amount of concentration. Emma even managed to reverse it back into our campsite spot.
We decide to head to Palm Springs Aerial Parkway, a cable car which takes us from the sweaty sun baked desert 2.5 miles up the mountain, to a beautiful alpine wonderland at the top of Mount San Jacinto
The top is stunning, a forested area with huge pine trees set against the bright blue sky, making us excited to see other National Parks on our travels. Today is Taya's first outing in the big rucksack that we usually use for Dylan, mainly for airports and long walks. She loves her new elevated position and her latest game of pulling mummy's hair.
Dylan loves all the sticks, and has to have one to walk around with. He is, of course, the leader, although he soon recruits Rich (and a stick) to help with the route. The girls must be the chasers (followers) and remain behind at all times. Oh, he has so much to learn!! The sticks come in useful for bashing logs, stones and bark to hear the different noises they make.
We pick the mile and a half desert view trail which is a loop and takes in five different view points
We stop for a picnic as we near the end of the track, before heading back down on the tramway. We have overrun and missed nap time by about an hour. Dylan is challenging to get to sleep, and he uses every trick in the book. It confirms to us how important his nap still is to him, and us. This is the first time we have used the van for nap time, and other than the rocky start, and the extreme heat, it works pretty well. Beats pram pushing in 110 degree heat!
Taya is on super form today. Raspberries, raspberries and more raspberry noises get us all giggling. Then to celebrate just turning 8 months she performs two new tricks in one playtime. Our little girl can now wave and clap. Super proud of her and she is so pleased with herself.
After dinner tonight Rich and Dylan head to the swimming pool for a dip. Dylan is coming on in leaps and bounds, literally. He goes straight to the side and jumps in, then back out, time and time again. Then he swims from the steps to Rich. This soon turns into a lazy glide across to Daddy as his energy levels drops. It still has us in stitches as he lazily floats across and awaits his rescue.
