A day in two beautiful places - Apollo Bay and Lorne.

We spend the morning exploring in Apollo Bay. It's busy and buzzy due to their biggest annual event, a music festival. Dylan knows his way round already, and despite us trying to take a different route, he insists we go past his favourite bicycle shop. We guess a good sense of direction is a good attribute to possess.

We have a walk along the coast path and a little paddle in the sea. In the main part of town there is a lovely market selling some interesting things. There is also the blue playground which must be played on. We sit and soak up the atmosphere and the rays whilst we eat our picnic lunch. Dylan makes a quick call home to his friends on the public phone, apparently checking that they have been to work on the train!

Short travel time today to our next destination, but it couldn't be on a more beautiful road - more of the Great Ocean Road. This section is more like we imagined with the road twisting and turning right next to the seashore. It is, of course, stunning. The sun is shining, its warm and the water is a beautiful turquoise colour. The other side of the road is lush and green with huge trees coming to meet the road. Most parking bays are full with camper vans of surfers heading to sea to catch some waves.

So we have fallen in love again, this time with Lorne. It's as pretty as Apollo Bay but more developed, with amazing shops, bakeries, restaurants and bars. We check into our river side cabin quickly then walk up the road to see more. Love, love, love it! It is, of course, ridiculously expensive as we glance at property prices. The beach is, as expected, fantastic, and the boardwalk busy with happy families playing and eating in cafes. Dylan takes a little persuading to walk barefoot on the sand which is not a new quirk, but once he's down the fun begins. He spends his time scoping up sand and throwing it around. Taya sits happily on the sand, of course, tries to eat it, and enjoys running her fingers through it, all the while demonstrating her sitting ability which is not too wobbly at all now. Then its time to hit the sea for a paddle, Emma and Taya first, quickly followed by Dylan who thinks it is all hilarious. We have no swimming things in the rucksack which was an error. By the time we are done Dylan is soaked through and covered in sand, but happy.

On the way home we pick up yummy cakes from the bakery and some pizzas from an impossibly small beach hut that is clearly popular. It's a lovely evening and the temperature is still warm. We eat in our cabin before showers and bedtimes.
