spent sunday pootling round khaosan road. monday we went to check out the grand palace and wat pho. lots of mirrored tiles and gaudy colours. more inspiration for when i get home and do up my bathroom! bloomin hot! had doinner at the posh place where we'd also gone on saturday night. had steak which cost about 5 times as much as the meal we had sunday night at a local place.
ooh. big point i have omitted!! i found chocolate orange milanos in the boots here!! (fab biks that i got fat on in the US last year) hideously expensive but worth it. happened to buy em the same day that i read that rutgers had given some other team a good whalloping in college football in piscataway in the bangkok post.
got woken up at 4am by some brit boys being very indiscreet about bring some prostitutes back
14 nov
got a mini bus to kanchanaburi to spend a couple of days. having made some while generalisations about the chinese, here's one on the israelis. cripes!! they have got to be the loudest, rudest, most selfish lot there is! shared the mini bus with a load of them. the 2 hour drive couldn't stop soon enough. got dropped off and consulted the rough guide. had planned to stay at sams place but the existance of a second guest house called sugar cane and a second travel place called good times, we read the map all wrong and set off in the wrong direction. however this was the best thing that could have happened. got a room at the bamboo house in a bungalow right on the river with a view of the bridge. walked up to and across the bridge. then tried to find the museum and cemetary but, thanks to out skewed map, we didn't walk far enough. bought some seaweed flavour crisps and headed back to the guest house for a cold (ish) shower and a read with crisps and reeeeeeeeeeeeeally cheap beer! went out for dinner and found sams place and therefore worked out the map

walked to the cemetary which was very well kept. the museum nearby was really good. informative about just about every aspect of the thai-burma railway. back to check out and have a spot of fried rice for lunch before heading back to where we'd been dropped off by the mini bus the previous day. had a right nightmare getting on the 1.30 bus we'd booked on. ended up getting the next one during which i spent continuously checking the time and the miles to bangkok signs. we had a coach to catch in bangkok! saving grace was we were with locals and no israelis! got to khao san at about 4.30pm. i headed off to the nearest boots to get some milano (horror - only plan choc ones available!!), dan emailed. picked up our bags where we'd left them yesterday morning and went to a guest house to wait to be picked up. was gettting the notorious khao san overnight bus to chang mai. heard lots of horror stories about thefts but the coach was fine. all apart from the bloody israelis sat behind us. grr! ;-)
managed to sleep quite a bit. got a cricked neck and my knees up round my ears but better than expected.

. then woken again when they decided to discuss it all (not quite a blow by blow account...!) outside the room. wallys (and other rather stronger terms sprang to mind)14 nov
