Steinbeck and Charley traveled to Maine and Lancaster N.H and stayed in these lovely spacious areas as stated in the book. This part of the trip first began around September thirthieth of the year 1960,Steinbeck was headed toward the top part of Maine where he told us he occupied himself upon a land near the white mountians.
During Steinbecks stay he stayed at the Riverbank Motel and Cabins.
The Riverbank Motel was situated along the side of the Connecticut River.
The many attractions Steinbeck encountered included the lovely Connecticut River where he could relax and visualize the imagery of the spacious flowing of water, the white mountains which pictured peacefulness, the seacoast, and Deer Isle and the lovely wildlife of Maines woodlife/pine-forest Interior. When Steinbeck reached Route 11,he slept in his camper by a bridge somewhere.Steinbeck really had a great time exploring and traveling through Maine and Lancaster N.H during the time he spent there.Throughout Steinbecks travel in Maine he passed by many summer stores that were closed for the winter and he made sure to take note of those findings.Next in Maine,Steinbeck visited the upper parts where he encountered a group of canadian potato farmers who spoke french, and they all slept in a local field.Furthermore in Maine,he visited a town that was called Bangor and he said that other peoples way of acting may and will affect your own way of acting. When Steinbeck visited Deer Isle he stated he met up with one of his old friends. Then in Maine,Steineck said he learned that it was not the best of an idea to ask directions from the inhabitants of Maine due to the fact they will usually give out the wrong directions to people they do not know/tourist.In conclusion, these are the many happenings that took place during Steibeck and Charley's travel throughout Maine and New Hampshire.Keep checking back for more journals entries to learn where they will be traveling next.
