So, 'Life in the Coral Bay - Take 2'.....

This place has to be one of the most beautiful places in Australia that we have been to.  We thought that before we went over East and after our time over there, think it now.  The Eastern states do have some spectacular coastline, but most of it is so populated.  We realise now that we like the remoteness of Western Australia and Coral Bay epitimises that.

It took a few weeks to settle in and of course it wasn't the same.  It never is and cannot be - but just because it wasn't the same, doesn't mean it was bad.  It was 'different'.

Fabio was now working as the Pizza chef working nights, which completely changed the dynamic.  It was great in the fact that we had a job and therefore an income straight away and for that I was very grateful, but - 'wine/beer o'clock' in this environment is the social time of the afternoon/evening - and that was his work time, so that alone changed everything.  Also, when we left last time, we knew everyone, but of course we arrived knowing a few.  It was different.

It didn't take us long however to get to know everyone again!  And whilst lots are new, it's a great community that quickly embraces you into the fold.  This lifestyle here, is a very outdoor existence and the children experience the freedom of yesteryear.  You can literally let them have time to play and give them a time to be home and let them go.  Beautiful for them to experience that freedom in this day and age.

If they are  not at the pool, they are at the beach snorkelling - the Bay here is safe enough to let them go out on there own. If they are not snorkelling at the beach, they are skim boarding, or they are at one of the other local children's house.  The community looks out for all the local children and again,  I love it!

They have a learning centre here now, where Carnarvon School of the Air operate and the locals have employed Miss Tori to oversee the children and help them with their lessons.  If they could get an actual teacher here, it really would be hard to leave.

I am now a Mermaid!  "That explains a few things!"  I hear you say. But basically that means that I work in the Local Boutique here, called 'Mermaids Cave'.  I love it!  Two days a week I mermaid and whilst I've never worked retail before, I enjoy it.  I want to buy the shop and live here forever....but it's not just about me (what??!) and time is ticking.....

The Gores a lovely family, who we met in Katherine arrived shortly after us and the children wasted no time in showing them around and even though they were only going to stay a week, stayed for over two - it's that kind of place.  By the end of there time here, they were into the Coral bay way and found it tough to leave.

We took them to the delightful Lagoon, the incredible Oyster Bridge, Five Fingers and Mauds Landing.  They took the children out on a Manta Ray Snorkel Boat trip - glad they did, you know me and boats and me and snorkelling (double whammy!!)  The photos are amazing and Adam concluded it was one of the best days of his life!

Jetty jumping is a particular pastime that the children love and even though the local HUGE Queensland Groper Merv is a frequent visitor, the children don't bother him and he doesn't bother them.

Coral Bay's Christmas party was excellent, Santa turned up on the fire truck - all the Coral Bay children were given presents and all the Coral Bay parents had a few drinks.  Fabio a few more than most.  But hey, he hadn't had a drink with anyone up until this point due to his unsociable work hours.  He made up for it!  Luckily a happy drunk and fun was had by all.  Even managed to get him home by 10pm which limited damage for the morning after.  He did suffer a sore back however after thinking that he could do cartwheels with some of the younger set!!

The Hutchens' family joined us on Christmas Eve to spend three days with us - of course they stayed ten!!  (told you, this place has that effect on people!)  It was great to see friends who have known us - or me at least - for a long time and the children again, were more than happy to introduce their children to all the locals and of course the jetty jumping.

We spent New Years Eve together, where as promised, I, (and they) learnt how to 'Shuffle'. LMFAO would have been proud of our efforts and don't even talk about their other song 'I'm sexy and I know it' as the children dancing their pants off, seemed wrong somehow.  BUT the joys of New Years gave it all a happy feel and we even managed to invite a lovely lady called Karen, her mother and her son to the festivities.  Turned out even better when she arrived with genuine French Champagne!  Cheers to 2012!

Skim boards for Christmas was a huge hit and with it being pretty hot here, sunset skim boarding is a particular joy.  First they were just happy to stay on it, now it's 360's, 540's - which are basically how many times they can spin the thing without stopping or falling off.  Jack is pushing even further now as only Jack does with handstands on it now!!!

Fabio finally managed to escape Pizza making and joined maintenance at the Bayview Caravan Park once more.   Much better hours and a much better Fabio.  His time as pizza maker, gave him the reputation as the best in the west, but the hours were tough.  So back with day work means that my catching up at night on two series of Greys Anatomy is over, but a more sociable lifestyle is back.

He was able to celebrate his birthday up the pub with friends and was given a crayfish which was kindly cooked up at the Reef Cafe a bit later, so ironically ended up back at the restaurant anyway!!  I'm just happy he's the same age as me again - for a month anyway!

So we have just survived our first taste of cyclone watch - luckily it didn't come down this far - but know we are in that time of year. Nobody could go North a few days ago, as Cyclone Heidi moved  through and, nobody could go South as fires have been raging around Carnarvon and the North West Coastal Highway was closed for almost a week - but what a place to be 'stuck' in!

So, I leave you now, I know there are lots of photos included in the blog, but I haven't written for such a long time that I just had to, AND It's decision time now.......should we stay or should we go.........My heart says stay, my head says go.........
