The Gold Coast in Queensland is one of those places that you can understand why so many people have settled here and you wish they hadn't! It has the most beautiful beaches and fabulous weather...but way too many people and high rises. Suggestion - back home in Scarborough - don't let them do this to you there! It is a concrete jungle here!
But let me tell you about the change of plan..... Work - Fabio had scored a nice job in Cairns, the boss asked us to pop into the head office at Burleigh Heads for a few days training and we were to hot foot it to tropical North Queensland' and frankly I couldn't wait
Then a couple of things happened, we got delayed when a severe case of gastro swept through the family. Oh let me tell you two words that should not be used in the same sentence - gastro and caravan! There was never a time more so than we needed plumbing - it was grim!
During the delay, Tiger Airways were grounded, this led to the job in Cairns disappearing! The boss had concerns of the lack of tourism and knew that head office really wanted to keep Fabio here and asked us to stay here for at least three months! And just like that, our plans did an about turn.
We had already purchased the Theme Park passes valid for a year and it looks like we are going to get our monies worth! We are there all the time!! Even I manage to go on the Rollercoasters - who knew? Must admit it was a surprise to me - I thought the Scooby Doo ride was a ghost train - it was not until I was flung around like a rag doll, forwards, backwards and just about every which way - and I coped, that I got braver and braver.
Poor Fabio is a bit like me, not THAT keen, however with a son like Jack, who wants to go on 'everything!' he had to put on the brave face and lead the way to every single roller coaster in every single park
Adam celebrated his 8th birthday here - poor love it was the day that both Fabio and Leila had the gastro bug. I did manage to take the boys to the famous Pizzy Park skate park - where apparently skateboarders come from all over Australia to visit, it's just around the corner from the caravan park.
We have also caught up with more friends we met in Coral Bay who live just out side of Lennox Head. They have this amazing property with a little creek running through it, which is the home to several platypus. It was just beautiful and the children had a blast with their two girls - even though the water was FREEZING - they would not be put off the flying fox across the creek. We spent a wonderful day and I want to live there! I will not settle in a property now unless I have my own private creek!!
So as we are staying here for a few months, Leila has joined a drama class, I have joined a drawing class. We go ice skating, swimming, have joined the local library and on Tuesdays we go to the local primary school for some after school sporting activities.
The homeschooling is going well and I now know terms like superlative, personal pronoun, predictive and adverb! I know that the emblems for NSW are the Waratah - flower, Platypus - animal and Kookaburra - bird. I could name 4 other states emblems too, but figure you are only 'so' interested
As you know Queensland is very keen to get some tourists here, they really are struggling with the downturn in the world economy, not to mention the floods and cyclone - so why not come on over - we would love to see you and I know that Fabio would love to go on the rides at the Theme parks more and more and more and more and more...........
