Dear All,

I am currently staying in a very nice beach hut overlooking the sea. It's the first time I've had my own room with bathroom and I even have a small veranda and hammock. I am staying in Lamai, Ko Samui in Thailand. It was quite a long journey from Kuala Lumpur but worth it as I got to see loads of the Thai landscape and scenery and enjoyed a lovely ferry journey to the Island.

Today I have relaxed on the beach and explored Lamai, I've had a pedicure and a manicure (to match my bikini colours). I went on a trip where I got to ride an elephant called Bert on my own! I met a monkey who has been trained to pick ripe coconuts from trees. I've seen how local people tap rubber from trees. I've had a Thai cookery lesson and visited a Buddist Temple.

Ko Samui is a very beautiful island, a perfect paradise: coconut trees everywhere and lush virgin rainforest inland. It looks like the TV show 'Lost' and Lamai beach is not very touristy (Chaweng is the main resort up the road) and you can walk for ages without seeing another person. I'd recommend it as a holiday destination to anyone. There are some very expensive spa hotels on the island, but for a cheap break there are also very cheap options - my accommodation is 500 Baht per night and could sleep two people (710 Baht is 10 pounds). Flights from Bangkok are around 40 pounds. If anyone fancies getting a flight to Bangkok over Xmas - let me know and we'll book it.
