We arrived with the intention of crossing the border immediately and heading for either a coastal town in Belice or Flores in Guatemala. However, we arrived ten minutes too late and missed all the connecting buses. We had no choice but to find a cheap hotel and wait until 5am the next morning to catch a bus. The night was pretty uneventful, dinner and a few beers in the town with two French people we met on the bus from Tulum. We didn't explore the town due to our early start the next day. One good thing came from our unintended stopover and that was bumping into another French guy that we had met previously in Palenque and then Tulum. He decided he was going to meet us at the bus station in the morning and travel with us to Guatemala.
Goodbye Mexico, it's been a pleasure to experience the diversity of this fantastic country. It has so much more to offer but we just don't have the time to hang around. The past five weeks have been a real eye opener and we have enjoyed and learned from our time here.
