Where I stayed
Andaman Beach Resort
We were quite unlucky so only see Koh Jum in the rain, although the one bonus in this is that all the other tourists were hiding in their rooms so it felt like we had the whole island to ourselves.
Koh Jum as with all the island along the south coast was hit by the Tsunami and there are some sad reminders of the destruction that happened such as the decaying hull of a longtail decaying in a tree
Getting to Koh Jum is quite an effort, the only boats that stop are the ferries between Koh Lanta and Krabi. In order to keep the beach as peaceful and isolated as possible there is no pier so like a scene from waterworld as the ferry approaches as fleet of longtail boats surround the boat and people and bags are transferred mid ocean in what seems to be organised chaos. We like to call this Thai style, as it seems like no one has a clue what is happening but everyone ends up exactly where they are meant to be, amazing.
We have noticed as we have worked our way along the Andaman Coast that different Nationalities appear to all gather in the same places, the Swedes in Koh Lipe and Mook, the French in Koh Lanta and oddly Koh Jum was filled to bursting point with an older American crowd, very odd!
